The Territorial Instinct
In an incredible display of enlightenment the United States Congress voted and passed into law Bill 1482. This new law ensures that all future Senators and Congressmen will not own more property than the least fortunate of their constituents.
In the not so distant future this means that Legislators will live in dwellings similar to that of their poorest constituents. If these Legislators, who are currently comprised entirely of millionaires, wish to improve their quality of life, then it is now necessary that they first improve the quality of life of their constituents.
This law was passed by the slimmest of margins. And it is clear that this solution alone will not solve all the problems related to poverty. But it is a start.
Several people lobbied suggesting that this law fails to address the homeless problem. It became clear that this bill would not have passed had the Legislators been forced to endure the same life as the homeless. It is estimated that over 260,000 faceless, nameless, unrepresented military veterans and countless other US citizens will endure this homeless existence this year. For now, and in the foreseeable future they shall remain the silent and invisible victims of a primitive system. Yes Johnny, America does leave her soldiers behind.
This bill also prevents Legislators from claiming their office as their territory. Another systemic symptom of the territorial instinct. This bill has established very clear term limits preventing future Legislators from remaining in office indefinitely. Senators will only have the opportunity to serve two terms, no more. Once they leave office they will not be able to lobby for another 6 years.
All of the laws that came from this bill do not apply to Legislators currently in office. They have been exempted or grandfathered from these conditions.
Another law was passed that also deals with the destructive territorial instinct. This involves the economic system. In this law all corporations can no longer hold monopolies or duopolies. Microsoft Windows for example will now be required to be in equal competition with alternative operating systems that offer equal or superior performance. All markets and all industries will be equally effected.
Another interesting example is Wal-Mart. All superstores may no longer crush or otherwise drive out local businesses. No superstores may offer a product or service of equal quality for a discount greater than 5% less than any of their local competitors. This ensures that small and medium sized businesses can now compete with the super buying power of massive corporations. This also makes certain that since there is no more employer monopoly employees can choose their jobs, their salaries, their benefits, their employer…
Before in the monopoly that was Wal-Mart, in towns across America, all the other employers were driven off. Now with choices these employees have the leverage and opportunity to raise not only their standard of living and quality of life, but also their dignity.
In addition all products and services entering the country will have a tariff, a tax imposed upon it. These taxes ensure that huge corporations using sweat shop labor can no longer undercut the American labor force thus driving down wages and causing massive unemployment nationwide.
These taxes will make all foreign goods equivalent in consumer pricing to those goods made in America. The American standard of living is now poised for a rebound and dignified jobs will soon return in quantity.
Thank you Legislators for bringing hope back to a dying American spirit.
Fair Trade made this country powerful. Free Trade made this country what you see today, a rotting economic corpse. But hey the overseas corporations with US lobbyists are making record profits. Should we care about them, in the slightest, no. Oh, and they are still not paying their fair share of taxes. They put their money in ‘offshore accounts’ to dodge taxes. The tariff money the US collects will come in handy to inspect the other 96% of imports not currently inspected for terrorist nuclear weapons, drugs, etc.
In the short term Fair Trade will rebuild America. All the other successful industrialized nations use Fair Trade including China. Whose territory is this anyway, ours or overseas multinational corporations? This is one territorial dispute we must win in the short term. Not just for the American people who will soon find themselves lucky to find work in a sweat shop, but for all those poor souls who already work in them overseas because of Free Trade.
